CASE STUDY
The main aim of the M1/M3/Gateway Merge Project is to tackle congestion near Eight Mile Plains; however, to effectively disaggregate and address the issues, significant volumes of traffic data needed to be collected. Furthermore, high traffic volumes resulting in rapid route saturation necessitated an ultra-reactive and precise quantification method that allowed for a fast, straightforward, cost-effective deployment.
J1-LED’s solution was to install three semi-permanent BATTS (Bluetooth Arterial Travel Time System) receivers. These devices listen for passing BT signals, calculate the travel time between receivers, and send the information to be recorded and analysed by cloud-based software.
Project outcomes include accurate data collection, which enabled informed infrastructure planning decisions, network analysis and performance monitoring.
